IS3NA Society
The aim of the International Society of Nucleosides, Nucleotides and Nucleic acids (IS3NA) is to bring together researchers on the chemistry and biology of nucleosides, nucleotides, oligonucleotides/nucleic acids. IS3NA involves and support researchers across several disciplines to address a plethora of cutting edge scientific questions ranging from the origins of life to the development of novel therapeutics.
The Society is a non-profit corporation operated to pursue specific scientific, social and educational objectives, especially in the promotion and advancement of scientific knowledge in the area of nucleosides, nucleotides, oligonucleotides and nucleic acids. In particular, the Society will initiate, sponsor and/or participate in conferences and other programs and relating to nucleosides, nucleotides, oligonucleotides and nucleic acids and develop, prepare and/or disseminate information and publications relating to these areas. We encourage national and international collaborations on research and applications among academic, industrial, governmental and private institutional organizations. We act as a mediator for communication, cooperation and understanding between scientists of all nationalities.
IS3NA History
Although researchers in the field had gathered together since 1974 at International Round Table (IRT) meetings, the idea of the IS3NA society was only formed at the XIII International Roundtable in 1998 in Montpellier, France. G. Gosselin, J.-L. Imbach and L. B. Townsend gathered a group of prominent scientists in the area together and made clear their desire that the IRTs should continue, but that the control of the IRTs should become the responsibility of a new society. A group of senior scientists, P. Dan Cook, Gilles Gosselin, Piet Herdewijn, Akira Matsuda, and Jack Secrist, was charged with the task of founding a new society that would not only take over guidance of the next IRTs, but would also bring together people interested in each aspect of research related to nucleosides, nucleotides, oligonucleotides and nucleic acids. At the XIV IRT held in 2000 in San Francisco, by-laws were in place and the new Society was named the International Society for Nucleosides, Nucleotides, and Nucleic Acids (IS3NA). The society has since continued with coordination International Round Tables on Nucleosides, Nucleotides and Nucleic acids which presently takes place biannually and was last chaired by Yitzhak Tor and held at UCSD in San Diego in 2018.
The upcoming International Round Table on Nucleosides, Nucleotides and Nucleic acids, will be held august 28-31, 2022 at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.
